BEND, OREGON
Bend Fire & Rescue is the largest fire department in Oregon State east of the Cascade Mountains. They work closely with Deschutes County 911 in comprehensive team effort to save their cardiac arrest patients through T-CPR and HP-CPR.
Bend covers a population of 120,000 residents and around 40,000 annual visitors. They respond to roughly 9,100 EMS calls per year.
After attending an RA in 2012, Bend started tracking cardiac arrest data and found that their survival rates were below the national average. Through continuous improvement and a strong relationship between the PSAP and EMS, over the next decade Bend improved their cardiac arrest survival rates.
In 2012, Bend’s Utstein survival rate was 20%. By 2018, their Utstein survival rate had increased to 70%.
